Meares ‘Big Tree’ Island
Amidst the archipelago, the silhouette of Meares Island emerges, a reminder of the enduring bond between our people and the natural world. It is here, amidst the ancient Red Cedars—some of the eldest sentinels of these lands—that we invite you to journey with us. Embark from Tofino on a brief voyage across the waters that have sustained us for millennia, to the trailhead of the Big Tree, or venture further to Lone Cone, where the summit offers a view that the eagles know well, a panoramic embrace of our lands.
The Big Tree trail is a path of connection, a 620-meter boardwalk that weaves through the forest, guiding you to the Hanging Garden Tree. This majestic being, with its 18.3-meter girth and towering height of 42.7 meters, stands as a testament to the resilience and beauty of our land. The walk is short, but the experience is timeless, inviting you to pause, breathe deeply, and become one with the forest that has provided for us since time immemorial. We allot visitors around 1.5 hours to immerse themselves in this living legacy.

- Rain gear for our “Wet Coast”
- Enclosed shoes (sandals not recommended)
- Winter hat and gloves (early Spring / late Fall)
- Binoculars
- Camera – full battery and a clean card
- Drinking water
- Snacks / picnic lunch
- Sunglasses and sunscreen on your face
- Your sense of adventure!
What is included:
- Life Jackets for everyone on board (XS to XXL) for your safety.

- Check in for your tour 30 minutes before departure time.
- Make sure you read & understand our booking policies and waiver terms before processing your reservation.
- Read our cancellation policy and note we have a 48 hour policy to cancel.
- These trips may not be suitable for people who are pregnant or with serious back or neck problems – please let us know at time of booking of any such conditions.
- Each passenger is required to sign a Release of Liability at check-in. Participants must be 19 years of age or require a parent or guardian to sign on their behalf.
- Prices are subject to change.
- If you are prone to sea sickness please take your motion sickness tablets before the trip.
- Open ocean tours ( e.g. Whale watching, Bird watching, Hot Springs Cove) might not be suitable for all guests.
